A newly reorganized garage ranked number one with almost one third of dads for home improvement wanted, beating out house painting, gutter cleaning or replacement and new fencing. Dads all over the world complain that there is not enough room in the garage for their items, everyone else’s stuff, and the cars. The US Department of Energy reports 25% of people with a 2 car garage, do not park any car in there and 32% park only one.
One day when painting around my home using oil base paint, I decided to try using baby oil to clean the paint off my hands. Why not try baby oil and see if it will remove oil base paint. Therefore, I applied baby oil to my hands and started rubbing the oil into my dry skin and found that the oil base paint was dissolving. I applied the baby oil 3 or 4 times to my hands and rubbed it into my skin before rinsing with water. Then I dried my hands very well and applied it one more time to remove any residual paint. When I was done, my skin felt soft and conditioned.
If you are going to focus on the outside of the home then start making a list of what needs to be done. Start with the big things like interior painting services. This is a great way to create a new look for your home. Try to create an attractive color scheme, but not one that is too outrageous. You don’t want to estrange any buyers and this can be done quite easily by an unorthodox paint job. Tending to the yard is another important aspect of this process as the yard will likely help to form the viewer’s first impression of the home. Make sure that the yard is kept in top-notch condition on a regular basis. If you are able to do it yourself, great. If not then you will want to contract someone to tend to the yard until the home sells.
It is such a blessing to have this opportunity for creative expression. I would encourage painters to pray about giving voice to their faith through whatever talents / medium they have developed. New possibilities arise as we open ourselves to the Lord creatively. “Here am I, Lord, what ideas would You have me share visually?” The message that goes in through the eyes AND ears might have more staying power as it is recalled in the ‘mind’s eye’.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, as I have loved you. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another”. John 13: 34 & 35.
If you know someone (a friend or family member) who is skilled with the brush, then you might ask him/her for some directions. An extra set of eyes can definitely be helpful for this project.
Once the job begins, try to stay involved without getting in the painter’s way. Unless asked to do so, don’t “lend a hand.” If you want to offer labor as part of the deal, make this an up front offer and don’t be afraid to be rejected. These offers often make professionals leery, and usually for good reason. It’s recommended that you only offer to help when asked, such as to hand up tools or bring refreshments as a courtesy rather than be hands-on involved with the painting itself. Many painters will have insurance or warranty requirements that don’t allow the homeowner or unpaid helper to be involved. You should respect that.
